Forstify GmbH is now PEFC-certified in timber trading

Forstify GmbH is known above all as a marketplace for raw-timber trading and for developing innovative tools for the digitalisation of forestry. Few people know that we have built up another successful pillar in timber trading. Since 2019, Forstify GmbH has been trading – among other channels via its own platform – a volume of around 200,000 solid cubic metres of timber per year.

To ensure sustainable forest management in Germany, a globally leading independent certification programme, PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), has established itself as a market standard. It aims to ensure that timber and timber products come from responsibly managed forests and that the forest is preserved as an important ecological, social and economic resource.

Since 15 March 2023, Forstify GmbH has now also been a certified PEFC trader. With the certification, Forstify has committed to guaranteeing compliance with the standards and the associated requirements. To ensure this, Forstify GmbH is audited annually by an independent certification body.

The significance of the PEFC certificate for timber trading

In the timber industry, PEFC certifications ensure that everyone involved in the supply chain engages more with sustainable forestry. It is often already a prerequisite for purchase that only timber or timber products demonstrably originating from certified forests are accepted. This development is nothing but positive and creates trust in the conscious use of timber. As a company in timber trading, it is therefore a high priority for us to give our customers the certainty that our timber comes predominantly from sustainable sources.

An important step towards sustainability

In future, it should also be possible for Forstify users to store their certification and thus attractively highlight the timber captured with Forstify. For us, however, sustainability does not end with the PEFC certificate – rather, that is just where it begins. In addition to trading and our raw-timber marketplace, the Forstify team therefore works continuously on digital innovations that make working with timber even more efficient, economical and thereby more sustainable.
