Press release: Digital timber measurement — section volume in minutes by camera
Forstify’s digital timber measurement is a new technology that captures section volume fully digitally. With the Forstify app, wood can be measured precisely and efficiently on any modern smartphone and tablet — without tools, paint, measuring poles, reference marks or extra people.
How it worked before
Traditional section-volume measurement required tedious manual steps: measuring with a tape, splitting into sections and calculating volume with formulas that differ from region to region and make comparison hard. With Forstify’s measurement technology, section volume can be captured in real time and without tools — in just a few steps.
The advantages of digital measurement
Thanks to intuitive handling and real-time on-site measurement, you save time and energy, especially with large quantities. Individually marking the lower edge enables precise measurement regardless of position — even on slopes and curves. You can add notes, photos and location, and take measurements straight into your digital wood list.
“With our Forstify technology we offer everyone in forestry entirely new possibilities, saving time, stress and needless debates about formulas, formats and the like. Measure 1,000 cubic metres in a few minutes? No problem with Forstify.” — Phillip Meesters, lead developer of Forstify timber measurement
Measurements now available offline
A standout feature of the latest update is offline capability. Measurements can be created without an internet connection. A new “Measurements” area lets you save data and add it to your wood list later, online. This makes working in the forest possible without data loss and with maximum flexibility.
Forstify wood lists — everything at a glance
Forstify wood lists are easy to use and do most of the work. Share individual lists by link with colleagues and partners. Awkward file-format conversion or retyping is a thing of the past thanks to import and export (e.g. PDF, Excel, ELDAT).
A look ahead
Forstify continuously works on improvements and on digitising further measurement methods to support every forestry scenario. The goal is to make digital tools simple and available to everyone.
“Forstify keeps developing timber measurement, and we’re already looking forward to the coming updates. In future, Forstify will fully automate further common methods (e.g. single-log measurement), needing only seconds instead of hours at high precision.” — Christian Kaulich, CTO of Forstify
About Forstify
The app is easy to use and covers the entire sales process — from measurement and wood-list creation to marketing. Forstify also takes part in research projects seeking solutions for a more sustainable forestry, economically and ecologically.
