Press release: Municipal licence — tailored to municipal forestry operations

Hagen, July 2025 — The digitisation of municipal forestry operations is picking up speed: Forstify has created a dedicated offering for municipal forestry operations together with Wirtschaftsbetriebe Hagen (WBH), who have relied on the digital forestry platform since October 2024.

Digitisation born from everyday work

“In the past, recording timber meant heading out with paper, tape measure and measuring pole — in any weather. Everything was noted by hand and later transferred in the office — error-prone and time-consuming. Today a smartphone is enough. I measure, document and have the finished lists in the system immediately — with no rework.” — Robin Doennges, district manager

With the Forstify platform, the entire process — from recording timber in the district to further processing in the office — is mapped digitally end to end, without media breaks and traceable at any time. In the forest, data can be captured offline on any standard smartphone or tablet, either by form entry or photo-optical measurement. GPS coordinates, photos, notes, stem count, mid-diameter, volume in cubic metres and diameter-class distribution are stored alongside and available to the administration in real time.

A new licence structure for municipalities

The municipal licence was developed specifically for the needs of public forestry operations — including all features, with no usage limits, no extra per-cubic-metre fees and usable on several devices at once. The licence starts at €1,199 per year, with each additional user licence costing €200 per year. It includes personal support, ongoing development and interface integration — with no IT effort or expensive specialist software.

“What I particularly value: our requirements feed directly into the development. The paths are short, and it often takes just a few weeks until new features go live. That is not a given for a municipal operation. With Forstify we have a system that is genuinely thought out from everyday practice.” — Robin Doennges, district manager

An invitation to more municipalities

“Most municipal forestry operations still have no end-to-end digital solution. With WBH we have shown that digitisation in forestry is simple and practical. The municipal licence is our next step to make that possible across the board.” — Caroline Scheele-Bild, Head of Communications & Sales at Forstify
