Quality grade
Quality grade classifies roundwood by features such as straightness, knottiness and damage, and strongly determines the price. Common grades (per the German RVR):
A — Stem wood of excellent quality: free of defects or with only insignificant quality characteristics that hardly affect its use.
B — Stem wood of normal quality with few and/or moderately pronounced quality characteristics.
C — Stem wood of normal quality with increased and/or more pronounced quality characteristics.
D — Stem wood that does not fall into classes A, B or C due to its characteristics, but can still be used as stem wood.
